Feel4Planet is an association founded by four young girls from Set\u00fabal. One of\u00a0 their goals is to raise awareness of the problem of cigarette butts in the environment. In\u00a0 2018, they made a partnership with Ana Quintino, an emerging artist from the city, and\u00a0 created an exhibition made of cigarette butts.<\/span><\/p>\n global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n It has been proven how harmful cigarette butts are for the entire ecosystem, and\u00a0 their presence in all public spaces where, without thinking about consequences and by the\u00a0 force of the habit, they are thrown to the ground. This exhibition was created to make the\u00a0 community aware of the number of cigarette butts that are still thrown on the ground and\u00a0 end up contaminating the sea and the soils. As Set\u00fabal is a city strongly connected to the\u00a0 river and the sea that bathe it, the pieces represent some of the marine life that is at risk,\u00a0 mainly due to the chemicals from the lixiviation of the butt that become toxic to fauna\u00a0 and flora, but also because of the microplastics from the degradation of the butt. These\u00a0 art pieces were created with the cigarette butts collected in beaches, gardens, riverside\u00a0 areas and the city center of Set\u00fabal, and counted one by one, for one year. It’s such a small object and\u00a0 yet it has so much impact. The pollution that comes from the lixiviation and degradation\u00a0 of them changes the environment without us noticing. Now we have the knowledge to\u00a0 protect ourselves. These were the thoughts that made these sculptures. They are built to\u00a0 represent the negative characteristics that come from our actions with shapes that remind\u00a0 us of natural things, however the names call for the lethal side of their existence. Focusing its action on protecting the\u00a0 environment and natural resources, Feel4Planet aims to reduce the environmental impact\u00a0 generated by the high production of waste, namely cigarette butts. Environmental\u00a0 education and social responsibility are the association’s pillars. To achieve the objectives,\u00a0 group activities related to solving the problems encountered are promoted in beaches,\u00a0 green areas and the city center, which promote dialogue and discussion, providing\u00a0 knowledge for the realization of correct choices and attitudes on a daily basis, taking into\u00a0 account the future of the human being and the environment. As such, the organization’s\u00a0 motto is: \u201cTeaming up for a sustainable future\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In April 2018, Feel4Planet inaugurated the <\/span>exhibition \u201cCigarette butt on the\u00a0 ground, on the sea, on the sand: a dangerous journey\u201d<\/b>, elaborated with cigarette butts\u00a0 collected in Set\u00fabal in 2017 and 2018 which came to life in the hands of Ana Quintino, an emerging artist from Set\u00fabal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Ana Quintino<\/b>, born in 1989, showed a particular interest in color, its application\u00a0 and its visual impact from an early age, something that ended up becoming characteristic\u00a0 of her work. She exhibited for the first time, in 2011, even before finishing her course in\u00a0 Caldas da Rainha, and exhibited internationally in 2012, at the 4th International Art\u00a0 Exhibition C. de Extremadura in Spain. Since then she has held several exhibitions and\u00a0 collaborated in several group exhibitions, exploring various mediums and artistic\u00a0 expressions. As an artist, she seeks to accept the error as part of the process and that is\u00a0 why, when creating, she intentionally wants the lack of control because the place where\u00a0 she creates has few rules, some order and the connection to her need to remember that\u00a0 lack of control is something inherent to being human.
